The researches about gage side lubrication and rail head friction modifier for heavy-haul railway are covered in this thesis. The gage side lubrication research mainly contains the lubricant selection, tests in lab and field. The research results showed that the gage side wear decreased significantly because of the lubricant application. The research about friction modifier was based on the dynamic model built by the multiply bodies theory. The reasonable model can be put forward by adjusting the Kalker and friction coefficients. The influences of friction modifier on the dynamic performances can be obtained by conducting the various simulations. The patterns of applying friction modifier between high and low rails lead to significant differences of dynamic performances. The lateral wheel/rail forces on high and low rail both decreased when the friction modifier only was applied on the low rail. By the comprehensive research about friction management, the technical support can be provided to extend rail life of heavy-haul railway.
