Study On The Application Of Sinocalamus Affinis In Interior Design

Sinocalamus affinis, the excellent material of bamboo craft, can be sliced into thin bamboo strips and silk with its perfect natural fiber and best softness. Different Sinocalamus affinis forms have unique style in the aspects of craftsmanship, pattern clothing and decoration. It is the ideal material of interior decoration. However, Sinocalamus affinis fails to perform its material superiority in the field of interior design, leading to low utilization rate and narrow application range. This paper aims to fully explore Sinocalamus affinis’design performance in interior design so as to reduce tension on supply and demand for interior decoration material and more widely apply this unique bamboo with Chinese characteristic into the interior design.Using "Sinocalamus affinis" as main research subject and documentation method, this paper analyzes the properties of raw bamboo, bamboo sliver, bamboo strips and bamboo silk and discovers that all kinds of materials can be applied in interior decoration with different characteristics of decoration. Further this paper analyzes Sinocalamus affinis’quality, color, texture and processing technology and discovers that it makes people feel comfort and warm with its flexible material, fresh and elegant color, straight texture and unique skin texture and bamboo joint. The bamboo’s color is various and its type is more abundant and durable after stimulating shapes, remaining green, bleaching, dyeing and three-proofing treatment. It verifies Sinocalamus affinis’ feasibility of decoration and craftsmanship in interior design. Based on the analysis of characteristics and development trend of interior decoration of modern housing and combined with the interior room design, this paper specifically analyzes how Sinocalamus affinis is applied in interior design using the method of summarization and induction. There are two main findings. The first one is that raw bamboo and bamboo sliver, hard, simple, thick and rough with static beauty, are fit for decoration with line shape in interior design; the second one is that bamboo strips and bamboo silk, lively, light, soft and delicate with dynamic beauty, are fit for decoration with surface shape in interior design. The Sinocalamus affinis’ design philosophy, principles and methods in interior design are summarized. Finally, this paper testifies Sinocalamus affinis’feasibility in interior design through its design practice of the application in interior room.
