With wide application market,drive axle bridge shell is an important part to withstand the load and transmission torque.Not only supports vehicle weight, transfers the load to the wheels,but also affords the traction、the braking force、the lateral force and the vertical force of reaction and the reverse torque.Therefore,it is an important measure to improve the comfort and security by designed the drive axle shell reasonably and guaranteed the sufficient strength.. stiffness and good dynamic characteristics.With the finite element method to analyze structural performance and optimal design of drive axle shell.It has an very important significance to improve the traffic safety and reliability,it’s also can ensure drivers and driving safety.This paper uses 153 drive axle bridge shell of a bus company as the research object.After the force analysis of drive axle bridge shell,it bases on finite element linear static analysis,free modal analysis,constraint modal analysis and the theoretical basis of mechanical structure optimization design,then combines modeling software UG with finite element analysis software ANSYS.It’s simplified the model when set up the 3D model of drive axle shell,then imports the UG model into the ANSYS workbench.Finally gives the structural material properties to drive axle shell and mesh finite element model.This paper combines with actual operation environment about four kinds of typical working condition of drive axle shell,analyzes its equivalent stress and total deformation,as well as its natural frequency and mode shapes under the free modal and constraint modal,the results show that the drive axle shell can operation reliably and security,also not cause resonance with the road vibration under various condition,so meet the design requirements.Finally,on the premise of guarantee safety coefficient,by changing the parameters of the thickness of the drive axle shell,the drive axle shell has been optimized,which reduced the quality,achieved the goal of lightweight.This paper creates a certain economic value,makes indirect contribution for green low carbon as well as emissions reduction and energy conservation,which has good practical engineering application.
