With the development of the electric power industry, the automation level of the power plant is improving, the newly built power plant recent years mainly adopt distributed control system(DCS) to realize the automatic control of the production process, and make the electrical control system as one of the subsystem into DCS, which conducive to the realization of the integrated control of the boiler, turbine and electric. Power consumption rate is the ratio of the Power consumption and the generated energy of the power plant, which is an important economy examining index of power plant, by reducing the power consumption rate, generation cost can be reduced, and economic benefit of the power plant can be improved.In this paper, first some basic knowledge of plant electric consumption is introduced. Then the three modes of the electric control system connecting into the distributed control system(DCS) power plant are analyzed, i.e. control cables, control cables and communication, full communication, technical and economic comparison is analyzed in details. At last, a series of measures to reduce power consumption rate of the power plant is given.
