Wind power plants are an integral part of the power system and play a very improtant role in power system. In the control of voltage and reactive power, Automatic Voltage Control (AVC) can ensure power grid securty, stability, economic and continued run, and it also can significantly improve the voltage level of power system. This paper analyzes the basic principles of wind power plants in the automatic voltage control systems engineering, and designs the reactive power compensation embedded voltage regulator, the research work as follows:(1) Analysis AVC system development status at home and abroad, and focus on its practical application in power generation company, demonstrates the design of automatic voltage control (AVC) system in wind power plants.(2) Discussion the working principle of AVC system in wind generator reactive power compensation embedded voltage regulator. According to typical control variables of wind power plants reactive power compensation, give the mechanism of automatic voltage control system and realize the functions of power plants side automatic voltage control system.(3) Through commissioning and operation of power generation company related automatic voltage control system, the results show that the system can effectively improve the voltage qualification rate, increase the capacitor reactive power compensation equipment utilization, reduce load tap tap switch the number of operations, reduce labor intensity of the monitoring duty, achieved a higher social benefits. At the same time the plant power loss through reduced exports, and achieved significant economic benefits of Energy Conservation.
