The smart grid is based on the physical power grid, combined with current advanced technology to form a new type of power grid. As the new technology in the field of communication, Wireless sensor network (WSN) plays a significant role in the process of the construction of the smart grid. The substations have the function of the collection and distribution of the electric energy. Therefore, the safe and intelligent operation of the substation are highly anticipated in the current construction of the smart grid. In the daily operation process of the substations, many factors will influence the security and stability of the operation, and the personnel and the location of the safety instruments will directly affect the safe operation of the whole substation. The moving objects including the personnel and instruments are taken as the research objects. The advanced WSN technology is used for the rapid location and tracking of the personnel and instruments. The automation monitoring method for the management of substation is imperative.Based on the above analysis, Based on the above analysis, the positioning and tracking system is designed based on the regional structure and the basic environment of the substations, combined with the actual needs of staff of the unattended substation operation in the process. The system is divided into three layers:Data Acquisition Layer, Network Layer and Application Layer. Among them, the main function of data collection layer is the comprehensive perception of the location information of the wireless sensors carried by the personnel and instruments of the substations. The network layer has the function of the reliable transmission mainly. It has the effect of the information transmission between the data collection layer and application layer. Application layer the function of the storage, analysis and demonstration for the information collected and transported by the data acquisition Layer and network layer to achieve the goal of intelligent processing.And according to the characteristics of the substation, the idea of the matching localization is used in the wireless sensor network positioning tracking algorithm in this paper. Matching Localization Algorithm has wide applicable scope, high positioning accuracy, and lower complexity, so it is more suitable for the substation environment, also lay the foundation for later tracking algorithm. Simulation results show that the precision of the wireless sensor network localization algorithm for the unattended substations is high, and the performance is good. So the algorithm is certain feasibility.At the same time, the matching tracking algorithm is researched based on the wireless sensor network localization algorithm for the unattended substations matching positioning. Matching positioning tracking algorithm has the advantage that the positioning and tracking accuracy is higher when any of the tracking algorithm is used and the number of the anchor node is eight only. Because it did not use any tracking algorithm, the positioning and tracking speed should be better than that of using more complex methods. And the positioning and tracking precision is high, when the number of the anchor nodes is eight. To some extent, it shows that the algorithm can reduce network deployment cost. So the positioning and tracking algorithm for the unattended substations in wireless sensor network is a algorithm of high cost performance.And the Kalman filtering tracking algorithm is researched based on the wireless sensor network localization algorithm for the unattended substations matching positioning. The simulation results of the Matlab show that the tracking accuracy of the Kalman filtering is slightly better than the matching positioning tracking algorithm. But from the point of the tracking algorithm performance, the matching positioning tracking algorithm is also can be regarded as a good positioning tracking algorithm of wireless sensor network.
