With smart grid technology developing rapidly, microgrid as an important part of the smart grid construction realizes the economic benefits of distributed power as well as provides a feasible program for the intelligent distribution network to achieve load demand response to customers. The advanced metering system (AMI)has several significant advantage such as wide range and high precision measurement and system operation. Although microgrid and AMI two technologies exist characteristics to complete each other, the application of AMI in microgrid is rarely studied considering measurement accuracy and economy. This paper aims to apply AMI in microgrid to measure the electric information in order to improve accuracy and performance in state estimation. Based on state estimation result an economic model of AMI measurement configurations is proposed measure and verified by examples ultimately.First of all, by the characteristic a large number of real-time node load data from microgrid system provided by AMI, it proposes a way to improve microgrid basic state estimation algorithm applying measurement conversion technology which facilitates the actual operation of the control center to monitor microgrid system. Secondly, the establishment of AMI measurement model microgrid determines the information process by measurement module. Based on this process a reasonable scheduling strategy considering two levels:system and a particular network, to ensure information transmitted timely, effective, and reliable. Finally, it establishes investment function, linear observable measure and system redundancy model related to AMI measurement configuration. Taking improving the state estimation accuracy and comprehensive consideration performance respectively as starting points, the aim is solving AMI’s economic problems. The lowest cost of the measurement configuration reaching estimation accuracy requirements is verified in considering the estimation performance conditions. The simulation results from Benchmark microgrid show measurement configuration in the case of small number of nodes can be quickly and accurately determined to satisfied both accuracy requirement lowest investment. This paper has practical significance in the actual microgrid planning application for quantitative analysis on the effect of AMI in the future.
