In recent years, with the diversification of the application, the high power density of the motor design, high reliability and compactness increasingly become researchers to pursue. In this development process, people have to face no way to reconcile the dilemma between these three. The key problem is the motor temperature. High motor temperature will bring the motor to overheat, insulation failure, demagnetization and other issues. Temperature control has two ways, one is motor loss, the other is motor cooling. Today, the generation and distribution of electrical losses have a lot of research, but the motor thermal analysis study is relatively small. Therefore, the study of motor cooling, has a great significance for the design of motors, especially high-power motor designTherefore, the mathematical models used in CFD are analyzed, to compare their applicable conditions. The principle of CFD simulation and its problems are also analyzed. Starting from this, an experimental platform is designed to measure the flow field and temperature field in the cooling channl, which is based on a permanent magnet motor. Then the data of flow field and temperature field under different conditions is collected. MATLAB is also used to process the data to analysis the turbulence. In order to optimize the numerical simulation and design of experiment, five models are selected to compare their simulation results with experimental data. RSM model is considered the most applicable one and the potential problem of the experimentis also discussed. Besides, other parameters may influence to the result of the numerical simulation is analyzed too.At last, in summarizes the further possibility of the experimental platform is pointed, and the future work of motor cooling analysis is prospected.
