As a kind of hoisting machinery, ship’s crane is made for loading and unloading goods at sea, mainly for the carriage of the goods between ships, replenishment at sea, putting and recycling underwater operation equipment and other important task.Arm frame is an important part of the crane, its structure quality directly affects the performance of the crane, so, the crane has strict requirements for arm frame on strength and stiffness. The shape and size of the cross section is always the key design of the crane structure. In recent years, with the increase of the complexity of the crane structure, as well as the improvement of reliability requirements, the traditional method has been unable to meet the requirements of fast design, therefore, must have the aid of modern computer technology, such as the finite element method, can meet the design of reliability and stability. Based on finite element theory, ANSYS is getting more and more widely accepted as general software in the field of mechanical structure analysis. This thesis summarizes the current situation of the ship’s crane at home and abroad, take the example of DLJC ship’s crane which designed by Dalian shipbuilding heavy industry and Dubai shipyard. in view of the working characteristics of ship’s crane, choosing different cross section and using the principle of classical mechanics calculation, calculated the arm’ strength. Then, set up the frame finite element model of four box arm and do stiffness, strength analysis and buckling stability analysis in four working conditions, find the most dangerous area of crane boom in different working conditions, and modified some structure with reference to the results of the analysis on the original model, so as to achieve the purpose of optimization design.Through the above research, compared with the theoretical calculation and finite element method, provides a certain theoretical basis for later ship’s crane design and improvement.
