The working space of ZLJ4000D type drill is limited because its moving is restrictedto longitudinal direction, it means the base-frame has to be rotated an angle whenworking in a wide range of drilling, which makes it inconvenient to use. Drill is held bydrilling chuck, whose structure and performance has great influence on reliability ofdrilling-rig. In one practical application, drill is worn severely because of relativesliding caused by big torque. In this paper, innovative designs are carried out onbase-frame and drilling chuck based on TRIZ theory.First of all, the working space of drilling-rig is analyzed using contradiction matrixmethod while wear of drill is analyzed using substance-field analysis method, solutionsare proposed based on these analyses. Then structural design and strength analysis arecarried out based on the above analysis and solution proposals.Secondly, designs are evaluated using TRIZ idea evaluation method, developmentdirection of drilling-rig are presented using TRIZ evolution law-S curve method.Designs are tested using prototype manufactured by cooperative enterprise, results showthat effect on drilling-rig’s rotation is better than effect on lift; however innovationdesign on drilling chuck obtains a very good effect.Designs in this dissertation have expanded working space and have improvedreliability of drilling-rig, on the other hand this dissertation is based on practicalproblems, and many solutions which can serve as a guide for the practical design havebeen proposed using TRIZ theory. Furthermore, this dissertation has promote andvalidate the use of TRIZ theory in mechanical design.
