with the rapid development of social economy over the years, the rural-urban fringe zonehas been changing with rapid pace of urbanization in China. Researchers in the field ofarchitecture and planning defined the rural-urban fringe zone as an independent planningcategory. Being ignored in the past, the rural-urban fringe zone is transitional zone betweenurban and rural area. It interacts and coexists with rural elements and is the new and uniqueregional unit type differing from city or country with dual attributes of both city and country.However, public activity space landscape design of rural-urban fringe zone is in a chaoticstage. Its planning and development influence the modernization of cities in China and is alsoa prominent issue that urban development in China lags behind that in development countries.Therefore, the study on the planning and development of the rural-urban fringe zone is of theurgent practical significance. With comparative study on the trend and achievement of therural-urban fringe zone at home and abroad, the thesis poses the problems that exist in thepublic activity space landscape design of rural-urban fringe zone in China. By careful analysisand research on Xi’an Huancheng Xiyuan Park, a successful case of public activity spacelandscape design of rural-urban fringe zone, the thesis summarizes the methods and forms ofpublic activity space landscape design of rural-urban fringe zone, thus changes the currentcondition in this respect.
