As a common geological disaster, slope instability and landslides occur in open pit minefrequently besides in hydraulic engineering, highway and railway engineering and otherengineering. What was worse, the consequences are quite serious once the slope failureoccurred. Not only will do damage to people’s lives and property, but will impede thedevelopment of the mine seriously. At the same time, there are many open pit mining,systematic safety assessment must be done for open pit slope stability in order to ensure thesafe production of the mine. As a non-renewable resource, coal decreases year by year. Withmine digging deeper and deeper, slope become steep increasingly and the slope stability isalso getting smaller and smaller, so slope stability research seems to be more urgent andserious. On the other hand, red clay exists widespread all over the country, including inmining areas sometimes. In this paper, research on Pingshuo East open pit red clay slope isimplemented and improvement scheme for slope angle of red clay is put forward, which canprovide some guidence for red clay slope.[1] According to the survey report and relevant information, the particularity of red clayis analyzed. Meanwhile, slope stability is studied using strength reduction method based onlarge-scale finite element numerical analysis software ABAQUS. And various factorsaffecting slope stability are analyzed and summarized.[2] Take classical example to analyze three instability criteria in ABAQUS, the resultshows that, there is a great error when taking converge as instability criterion; We can get aapproximate safety factor when taking penetrating the plastic zone as instability criterion,however, it is only a necessary condition of slope instability whether the plastic zone throughor not, it can’t be ultimate instability criterion, also; the safety factor is close to real situationand it is relatively conservative, which can play a role of improving the safety margin, whentaking displacement catastrophe as instability criterion.;[3] Through analyzing the stability of red clay slop under its own weight, we obtain thatthe stability of red clay slop decreases because of the particularity of red clay. The resultsshow that slope stability safety factor is1.2, the slope remains stable.;[4] Summarize the influence factors of the slope stability, and study mainly from natural,man-made aspects and other aspects. Research shows that, on the one hand, rainfall factor has significant influence on slope stability, on the other hand, meshing has significant impacton the results of slope analysis when using numerical simulation software.[5] This paper study the effect of slope angle to slope stability and assess their economicefficiency under different conditions. At last, obtain the final slop angle by optimizing thedesign slope angle. Thus, it can reduce the cost of stripping prominently and decrease pressedcoal, meanwhile, ensure the safety of the slope, which has some engineering significance.
