Thermal effects lead to a variety of electrical equipment failure occurs, so forreal-time temperature monitoring of electrical equipment, in order to ensure thenormal operation of electrical equipment.Substation is the central part of the powersystem, focusing on its monitoring for the entire power system is significant.Infraredthermal imaging technology can detect electrical equipment failure, especially internalfault, which can greatly reduce the incidence of accidents power system.Infraredthermal imaging equipment can achieve real-time monitoring of substation, especiallypower equipment temperature monitoring.This paper analyzes and summarizes the relevant definitions of infrared thermalimaging, theorems and formulas, proposed diagnostic principles of electricalsubstation equipment failure; Depending on the mechanism of various types ofelectrical equipment failures,analyzes different infrared thermal imaging device canbe used for various electrical equipment; And through the common faults substationtransformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, capacitors, transformers and otherelectrical equipment mainly infrared thermal image analysis and processingphotographs, summed up the different imaging characteristics and fault identificationmethod; Finally the paper summarizes some of operational requirements andnecessary to prepare for the infrared detector to improve the accuracy of thesubstation site, and put forward some algorithms to enhance image clarity,temperature, emissivity of the measured object, the detection distance, not whilerunning load test results correction method, as well as some on-site detection of verypractical identification methods.Along with the continuous improvement of the infrared thermal imagingtechnology and promotion, it is within the substation electrical equipment real-timemonitoring will play a key role. Especially with the rapid development of computertechnology, the advanced infrared thermal imager can through the network to transmitdata information with computer real-time exchange, make full use of computer inimage acquisition, processing, display, storage, with many advantages, and the use ofthe knowledge base of intelligent analysis of temperature data, will make the infraredthermal imaging technology in the substation monitoring a major breakthrough, and isadvantageous to the infrared thermal imaging technology to play a bigger role in otherareas.
