In the current diverse trends of architectural creation, developing the underground space hasbecome a new design strategy. With the development of science and technology, undergroundbuildings are maturing gradually. As some attributes of underground space adapt to spacerequirements of museum buildings, underground museum buildings have developed well and havemade significant progress in recent decades, and what’s more, excellent cases are springing upconstantly. Based on the above backgrounds, this paper mainly discusses the specific designmethods of underground museum buildings. The aim is to broaden the design thoughts and toguide the creative practice in the future.Firstly, underground museum buildings are introduced from several aspects, such as the historicaldevelopment, the cause of the use of underground space and so on. Then the paper points out theadvantages and disadvantages of the use of underground, and summarizes the similarities anddifferences of the design principle between underground museum buildings and common museumbuildings. Secondly, the specific issues of underground museum buildings are analyzed from theangles of layout, space construction, environment design, atmosphere design and relevanttechnical measures. This part aims at discussing the common problems and the solutions in thedesigns of underground museum buildings. Finally, some typical examples are selected to analyzethe specific designs of underground museum buildings, which further verify the above researchresults. This design research strives to be clear and comprehensive. At the same time, it’s supplemented byrelevant case studies. The full text is divided into5chapters: the first chapter—introduction;thesecond chapter—basic analyses of underground museum buildings;the third chapter—designresearches of underground museum buildings;the fourth chapter—case studies of undergroundmuseum buildings;and the fifth chapter—conclusion and prospect.
