In recent years, the atrium buildings are adopted by more and more architects due to its unique characteristics, which also brought along a variety of problems. Atrium is a through space, its appearance is a challenge to the existing fire and smoke district, and our current specification requirement of the atrium smoke also has its unreasonable. The study of atrium smoke spread, optimization of smoke exhaust measures is necessary.In this article, aiming at the fire characteristics and smoke movement in atrium, the correct way of handling the turbulence model and radiation model was discussed. A complete fire model was set up, the fluent software and large eddy simulation technology to simulate the special fire scene was used. This paper mainly studied the influence of fire intensity, the atrium height, vent area and location, type of the atrium, surface temperature and other factors on the natural smoke exhaust in the atrium. Results show that the atrium fire intensity, type, and surface temperature has little effect on the smoke layer height and temperature, the atrium can use the nature exhaust when its height is more than12meter, increasing the exhaust port area can exhaust fumes more effective, top opening is more conducive than the side wall to exhaust fumes. The existing Code for fire protection design of tall buildings in the relevant provisions on the natural smoke exhaust remains to be further improved. Meanwhile, at the time of smoke control design, safety evacuation criterion should be accounted while ensure the smoke exhaust effect.In addition, this article is based on the theory of regional models and numerical methods for a hotel atrium design of natural smoke exhaust system. Main factors which influencing the results of the final design is analyzed. This method is easy to grasp and can provide actual reference for the design of natural smoke exhaust in atrium fires.Finally, according to the results of this study and previous research on the atrium of fire, the reasonable suggestions are put forward for the atrium smoke design.
