With the accelerating pace of urban construction, the subway and Highways transformation causemany temporary intersections, which has spawned an urgent need for wireless intelligent traffic lights. Ithas been designed in this paper.Firstly, the research status of intelligent traffic lights has been reviewed, which clarify the importantrole of traffic lights in the field of modern traffic control, and then propose a design idea which use theMCU as wireless intelligent traffic light controller. In order to show a better explain of the design, thebackground of related research and basics of traffic signal control for the corresponding presentation havebeen introduced. The design of intelligent traffic lights includes the following functions:1. Communication function based on GPRS; we have completed the data connection and transferbetween GPRS module and remote PC with the using of AT commands.2. The function of traffic flow prediction and dynamic timing plan; we have compared several trafficflow prediction methods and chose one of them, then we made some improvement of the method toameliorate its adaption of traffic flow.3. Interactive features between human and machine; we have developed an application platform forpeople to get the information of the traffic lights, the crossing more intuitive and easier.In addition, the article have introduced and designed some supporting hardware systems, including atemperature sensor, the drive circuit of LED traffic lights, the detection circuit of traffic flow, photovoltaiccells and so on.At the end of this article, we have finished some testing of the system, which prove that the system cancomplete the data transmission stably, predict the traffic flow accurately, and run reasonably.
