With the development of the city, after more than ten years of “European Wind”,Chinese residential construction market consciously or unconsciously turns to search for localroots and culture. In recent years, the topics about Chinese style residential have become a hotdiscussion of architectural industry and the media, and forms a “Chinese Wind”. Chinese stylelow-rise residential, as a typical residential type, inherits the characteristics of Chinese styleresidential. It is loved by the people because its residential courtyard space, especiallyresidential hydrophilic space can integrate and coordinate with natural environment.At present, the good example of hydrophilic space design is Jiangnan private garden,the Jiangnan private garden has a complete design system in the aspect of gardening, also hasa lot of techniques of expression in the aspect of hydrophilic space design, for example, thecomparison of space, the extension, penetration, separation, twists and turns of space, they arerelatively mature no matter in the aspect of theory research or practice of construction.Therefore, this paper selects Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic space as theobject of study, and selects Suzhou which has a number of Jiangnan private gardens as theresearch scope, then collects a lot of data and investigates on-the-spot. This paper is dividedinto six chapters. The first chapter, the author discusses the backgrounds, purpose, meaningand related concepts of the subject, definites the scope of the study, discusses domesticrelevant theoretical research and development situation, makes clear the research methods andresearch framework. The second chapter, the author describes the row-rise residentialhydrophilic space basic theory, analyse its meaning, function, characteristics, classificationand design principles. The third chapter, introduces the current situation of Suzhou Chinesestyle low-rise residential hydrophilic space, Chinese traditional water art and Suzhoutraditional water art, analyses Suzhou Chinese style low-rise residential distribution andhydrophilic space construction in recent ten years, and summaries the design factors ofSuzhou Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic space. The fourth chapter, analyses theelements of Suzhou Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic space, and its designmethods. The fifth chapter, elaborates the design techniques of Suzhou Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic space, including contrast and unity, tortuous and separation, extensionand penetration, fluctuation and level. The sixth chapter, is about the case analysis, combiningwith the fourth and fifth chapters’ relevant content, introduces and analyses the author’sresearch of two Suzhou Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic space design, providesthe beneficial reference for the future of Chinese style low-rise residential hydrophilic spacedesign.
