Currently, the research on the strengthening and toughening functions of concrete structure reinforced by PET as the new structure is at the primary stage, which has few documents and references. The related tests show that the double layer concrete filled steel tubular(CFST) column reinforced by PET can maximize the mechanical properties of concrete,steel and PET, enhance the bearing capacity of the concrete and improve its ductility. For the better research on the properties of CFST which are reinforced by PET, this paper concentrates the experiment on the situation of double layer CFST column reinforced by PET under the effect of bending resistance and axial compression. For the improvement of structure ductility, the mechanical properties of double layer CFST column with different outer FRP materials, different thickness and forms of the outer layer steel pipe, and different thickness of the inner layer steel pipe are systematically researched. Then the law of bending resistance and axial compression of the concrete column reinforced by PET can be carried out. Meanwhile, by comparing the theoretical calculation and experiment results, the strengthening and toughening mechanism for double layer CFST column is verified, which provides the goal and method for this new structure design. At the same time, the bearing capacity and ductility of CFST column which is reinforced by PET material were studied basically. The research indicates that the CFST component reinforced by PET can meet the various requirements for power distribution bars in practical application. It provides the theory basis for designs and manufacturing of the new model structure of power distribution bars in the future, and for further studies by researchers.
