Because the concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) has manyexcellent properties such as: the high compressive capacity,aseismatic property,economizing steel and convenience in construction, CFST has been utilized in more and more fields and great attention has been paid to its design theory by the academe aroud the world. At present the research and application form more limit to the circular cross-section and square cross-section of concrete-filled steel tubular.Above all the situation of the research and the formula,involving that in abroad ,is introduced .And the paper gives us the constitutive relationships of the steel and core concrete and physical mechanical characters of them. Then the theoretical carrying capacity of equilateral triangle,isoceles triangle,equilateral octagon,equilateral hexagon,hexagonal, square, round and rectangular is calculated by existing general theory.Finally, by the experiment this paper researchs the behavior and limited load-carrying capacity of the steel tube-confined concrete short column in a different section of the 12 steel tube-confined concrete short columns under axial compression,analyzes the test process, phenomena, and result, and proposes advice with site operation and engineering design.In a word. we may get the result that the general theory formula is fit for the limit bearing capacity short column subjected calculation of the core concrete filled steel tube to axial compress.
