With the rapid development of our country’s economy, the society pay more and moreattention to the safety of the car and the energy consume and environmental protection.Themost direct and effective way to reduce energy consumption is to reduce car weight. Thereare two main ways to reduce weight. The first is structure lightweight, which is to reduce theuse of material under the premise of property through reasonable structure design. Thesecond is material lightweight, which is to reduce the weight of body under the premise ofproperty by the use of new light material. The lightweight and security of car body arecontradictive. How to reduce body weight reasonably and increasing the safety of the carbody is a key problem.This thesis research on a passenger car side based on the security of the side impact. Byusing high strength steel reasonably and improve the structure of body reasonably in the carside, not only the security of body structure in side impact was improved, but also thelightweight of body was achieved.The main research contents:1. Establish the highlyaccurate vehicle side impact finite element model and the MDB finite element model;2.Make relevant validation about vehicle side impact finite element model and the MDBfinite element model;3. Present a method of the simplified model establishment for theresearch on the side impact, use this method to establish a reasonable simplified model;4.Make relevant validation about the simplified model;5. Improve the structure of body incar side reasonably;6. Use high strength steel as the new body material, apply high strengthsteel to the structure which was reasonably improved, make a optimization of the new bodymaterial,and make car side matched with reasonable strength and thickness distribution ofthe high strength steel.7. Come up with reasonable optimization goal after referring to thecollision regulations and injury criteria. The improved car side structure is more safe than original car side structure,theintrusion velocity and displacement of the B-pillar have decreased significantly;and theweight of the car side body was also reduced, reaching about14percent lightweightcompared with the original car side body. The research result can guide the research of thevehicle passive safety in side impact and vehicle body lightweight, providing a reference ofthe use of high strength steel on the car body.
