According to the function can be divided into landscape appreciation, safety protection, oriented isolation type, combination type; According to the classification of materials can be divided into: natural materials and artificial materials, which can be divided into the wood type concrete fence, stone fence, metal fence fence and new materials.(2) According to the domestic and foreign theory research of fence, summarized in the actual cases, the characteristics of the fence, such as thematic, ecological, disconnection, analyzed the fence in the role of the environment, including safety, space, landscape and other ancillary functions, etc.(3)According to the characteristics of the summary of fence, the application of the principle is brought forward, namely the people-oriented principle, integrity principle, the appropriate innovation comprehensive principle. Fence design is a comprehensive art, diversity, in meet the requirements of people to use a function, more to meet the requirements of people’s mental experience, so to give it to properties of beauty, in the process of design can follow repetition, rhythm and tempo, contrast and unity, and different artistic principle. (4) Analyzed the fence combine with various elements in the environment, including the surrounding buildings, plants and other garden sketch, etc. the combination of different ways can produce three different types of landscape effect, including prominent fence, rich administrative levels, form the visual center.(5) Systematically studied the fence design requirements, put forward the basic principles of railing design, size requirements and design elements. How to make the reasonable combination of dot, line, face and body.(6) Through the analysis of21types of application data in Changsha, summed up the application in all kinds of places in Changsha city fence type, material, form of expression, the collocation with other landscape elements, etc. Come to Changsha city safety protection type is the highest frequency fence type, followed by landscape appreciation, isolation and comprehensive use. For wooden fence material use frequency is highest, the second is the stone material, metal mold, and new materials. Each type of fence use frequency is different also, different places in short demand and places are closely related.(7) Changsha fence is summarized in the botanical garden application in some of the problems, such as type, material is similar, the lack of innovation, the function of a single, less use of the collocation with other elements, character of landscape problems, and proposes the corresponding solutions in view of the problem.
