Based on the test parameters of HDM-20wear tester, this paper chose suitable size of thrust and angular contact spherical plain bearing as the test object and accordingly designed test fixture.The real-time friction torque under various operating conditions was measured in the process of experiments. It used infrared camera to shoot the outer surface of two-dimensional temperature distribution of the bearing friction process, and used the infrared probe to directly measure the local temperature of the spherical surface. At the same time, it developed a high-speed communication program between sensor and computer, and realized the automatic measurement, curve display of the test and data preservation.In the process of temperature field modeling, above all, it analyzed the bearing contact stress under axial load, and deduced dynamic friction coefficient based on the friction torque test. Then combined with contact stress and friction coefficient, heat flux was calculated. The APDL language of ANSYS software was used for secondary development, it can realize the indirect coupling of structure-temperature field, and the unsteady temperature field was analysed by finite element method. Finally the reliability of the simulation results tested.Simulation and experimental results indicated that:(1) the temperature field calculation model solved the precise calculation of friction coefficient of the spherical friction pair,and the space-time distribution of heat flow rate was also solved;(2) If ignoring spherical bearing clearance in modeling, it will directly affect the results of contact stress distribution and cause huge error in the temperature field distribution. Considering the spherical clearance can be more accurate in the calculation of bearing friction temperature field;(3) Under axial load, the frictional heat of thrust and angular contact bearing concentrated at the bottom of the spherical. And a large difference of temperature occured between outer surface and the friction surface, so the traditional measurement method that uses the temperature of external surface to judge a bearing’s life also remains to be improved.
