With the increasing emphasis on quality of life, health and welfare needs of the community and the technology progress, especially the increasingly prominent of the aging population problem, many medical models are changed rapidly to adapt these demands. On the other hand, the clinical rehabilitation medicine studies show that many diseases or physiologically functional degradation are closely related to the Gait characteristics and body balance in human walking. But we still have many problems in this area such as high equipment costs, inconvenient, and some still in the experimental stage. In view of this, this paper introduced a wearable device-Smart-Belt-on the basis of Home-Use. The Smart-Belt is a simple, low cost and widely used device. It can provide timely detection and assessment for people’s exercise and rehabilitation especially for Home-Use. The Smart-Belt system comprised two acceleration sensors and a base station. The two3-axis acceleration sensors selected with the goal of designing a highly devices system capable of sensing many parameters that characterize the Gait are located symmetrically on both sides of the belt. The base station in the front of the Smart Belt contained A/D, Bluetooth and so on and is for the early processing of the measured data.In this study, we would study how to measure the trajectory of the body Center of Mass(COM) and assess the human Gait and balance ability using the Smart-Belt. This study completed it with three steps. First is to find the method of measuring COM. Then we designed a algorithm to process the COM acceleration data to get the COM displacement, and verified it by the VICON system. Finally, we set some parameters of the trajectory of the COM based on the relationship between the COM and the Gait. Then we achieved the goal that assessing the basic Gait ability and body balance according to the existing normal Gait parameters. By implementing this study, the users can get and record their basic Gait ability and physical balance timely with the Smart-Belt. With them, the doctor can make a more accurately diagnosis and a right rehabilitation plan for the users, including before treated, when treated and after treated.
