Automatic packaging robots are the intelligent packing machinery of high productionefficiency, high reliability, high automation and high flexibility. With the growingdemand for automatic equipments from customers, automatic packaging robots havebeen widely applied in packaging industry. However, the technology of Automaticpackaging robots developed slowly in our country and packing machines of highautomation are mainly imported from abroad. This situation severely restricted thesteady development of Chinese packaging industry. With the project of Jiangsuprovince’s science and technology support plan subsidized, we begin to research therotary automatic packaging robot. Aiming at high dust production environment, anautomatic packaging robot which is for taking, sucking, opening and covering has beenresearched. This research broke the monopoly of the technology abroad and of greatsignificance to improve our country’s automatic packaging machine.First, this paper has fully researched the status about the development of automaticpackaging robots. According to the project requirements, the functions of rotaryautomatic packaging robot have been analyzed. The design program has also been made.The design program includes institutions’ configuration and choosing the drive mode.Then, the detailed design of each subsystem and virtual assembly are completed byusing Solidworks software.Combined the mechanical structure and the theory of fluid knowledge, pneumaticsystem has been analyzed. The design of pneumatic system, including cylinder system,chuck system and gas circuit system, has been completed. Next, according to thefeatures of automatic packaging robot, mechanical arm has been made modal analysisand key components have been made static analysis with ANSYS. By analyzing theresults, the strength and stiffness of automatic packaging robot have been evaluated.Finally, packaging system kinematics model is established by vector method and dothe numerical simulation by Matlab software. By compared test results and simulationresults, system kinematics model’s correctness has been demonstrated. These worksprovides a theoretical basis of the motion control system. According to the hardwaredesign of automatic packaging robot, the whole control system’ design has beencompleted, including each subsystem control process and working exception handling.
