In recent years, the state grid has developed quickly. A great of overheadtransmission line engineerings are constructed nationally. As a lifting tool, the derrickplays an important role for the construction of transmission tower, and is widely usedin transmission line engineering. The derrick belongs to the special structure with ahigh requirement on the security. In the event of an accident, it can cause irreparableserious loss of life and property. With the increase of the height of transmission tower,the height of the derrick increases, the stability problem cannot be ignored. So beforethe use of the derrick, systematic mechanics analysis must be done to ensure securityin the future.Strength and stability analysis are carried out for a double flat arm derrick usedin an actual engineering. The double arm derrick model is established using theANSYS software. There are three main parts to check the derrick:1. The stiffness andstrength of the derrick are calculated. The maximum displacement, pulling force andstress are obtained. The calculated results are analyzed. And the dangerous load casesare summarized.2. The stability is analysed for the dangerous load cases to judgewhether it meets the requirements.3. When the strength and stability does not meetthe required conditions, the improvement measures are puts forward. For the newmodel after modification, the analysis is continued to make the improvement meet thedesign requirements.The analysis of strength and stability of the double flat arm derrick can provide areference for similar engineering design and construction.
