Urbanization is the objective trend of the human society development, and likewise an important symbol of modernization of the country. Currently, according to the universal law of the urbanization development in the world, China is in the stage of quickened urbanization process, leading to the complicated and changeable features of urban structure, which is difficult to handle. The Chinese government meets the problems raised from the rapid development process by putting forward the concept of new-type urbanization, and by taking "optimizing the urban structure and management structure" as the basic way to increase urban sustainable development capabilities.In abroad studies, accessibility is often used as a comprehensive characterization of urban transport policy and land-use standards. Based on that view, accessibility is introduced into the evaluation work of urban structure (the interaction of different land zones supported by urban traffic system), and providing theoretical basis for seeking the evolvement of urban structure by analyzing the interaction of urban traffic and land-use. On this basis, accessibility can be regard as the symbol of urban traffic and land-use integration, as well as the spatial feature of urban structure. Thus, the urban structure could be evaluated by the evaluation model of accessibility. In the point of this view, an quantitative analysis on the street employment accessibility of XiCheng District is launched to present the general method of the evaluation and optimization work of urban structure under the application of accessibility theories. Besides, in order to analyze and to optimize the urban structure of Beijing, general ideas for strategy making of optimization of urban structure are raised, which indicate directions for the application of related theories and methods on the effective allocation of urban resources.Following the principles of theory combined with practice and qualitative analysis combined with quantitative analysis, the empirical research of Beijing is launched based on related theoretical framework, which presents the implication work of accessibility theory in the evaluation and optimization of urban structure. On the whole, the theoretical logic is clear and the quantitative conclusion is targeted, to prove these attempts are feasible. Besides, the general countermeasures to urban structure problems are acquired through these studies. The ultimate goals to optimize urban structure and raise urban efficiency would not be reached unless implementing coordinated policy of transport and land-use combined with reality and rules, as well as the guiding ideology of accessibility improving on the whole city scale.
