Side impact is one of the most common collisions which can cause high rate of casualties.As a result, side impact becomes a focus of vehicle passive safety research. In side impact oftraffic accident, side structure of body that acts as main contact area in side impact is weak.Therefore, increasing the stiffness and strength of body components will greatly improve thecollision resistance and reduce passenger injury. Thesis conducts the safety analysis andstructure optimization of a certain type of vehicle according to the new evaluation standardC-NCAP2012in China.First of all, thesis establish the finite element model for vehicle side impact. It importsvehicle model which is completed in3D drawing software CATIA and Mobile DeformableBarrier (MDB) model in HyperMesh software based on finite element analysis, divides thegrid reasonably and sets related parameters.Secondly, thesis performs calculation in LS-DNYA software and analyze the processeddata results using HyperView. Through conducting the energy and speed analysis, the thesisverifies validity of the model as well as finds out the existing problems in components of sidebody so as to provide basis for structure optimization by completing the vehicle deformationprocess and collision force transferring path analysis.Through both the orthogonal experiment and integrated balance methods, the thesisobtains the optimization solution adopting the maximum amount of intrusion in bodyacceleration as the evaluation standard. Afterwards, it verifies the effectiveness of thatoptimization solution by comparing the deformation form, intrusion velocity and intrusionamount between the vehicles before and after.At last, it comes to conclusion of the research in this thesis, and the in-depth study ofside impact is also discussed. The research results can be used as a reference of improvingthat type of vehicle’s side impact security and effectively enhance the collision resistance ofside body to a certain extent.
