Compared with the electricity excitation motor, the permanent magnet motor has some advantages such as simple structure, small volume, light quality, high efficiency, flexible motor shapes and sizes etc. And it is widely used in industrial and agricultural production, aerospace, national defense etc. However, due to the existence of permanent magnets, the calculation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG) design becomes more complicated than other generator. Although the PMSG cancels the collector ring and brush and realizes brushless, but once it is made, and it’s hard to adjust magnetic field so as to control the out voltage and power factor. So, it is essential to deep study more accurate design of PMSG. In this paper, it focuses on the research on analysis of simulation of electromagnetic field by the finite element method.Firstly, the fundamental principle of PMSG is introduced including the structural styles and performance characteristics of PMSG. And the general process of motor design is given, according to the motor design requirement, the preliminary design generator’s parameters is obtained by the traditional analytic method. Then the prototype of PMSG is simulated by ANSYS the finite element software. Vector magnetic potential Az, magnetic field intensity H, magnetic induction intensity B etc. can be obtained through defining and assigning material, meshing, exerting boundary condition and loads, solving and so on, which can intuitively know the distribution of the electromagnet field in interior generator.Secondly, further analyze and calculate PMSG’s electromagnetic field, and verify rationality of magnetic circuit by the results of magnetic flux density and magnetic field intensity; The Electromotive Force of unload and load is solved using two different methods, and their waveforms can be got. Those will provide the powerful tool for further calculating various performance characteristics of PMSM.Finally, the external characteristic of PMSG has been deeply studied based on tooth flux method. The influence of different structure parameters on electromagnetic field of the PMSG is quantitatively analyzed, so as to find the method to improve PMSG’s characteristic. These parameters including magnetization direction length hM、the number of windings N、air-gap length δ、electromagnet length Lef and wire diameter d. And the contrast two generators of different permanent magnet structure to analysis and comparison their air gap magnetic flux harmonic content. Comprehensive the motor design factors such as cost to choose magnets structure.
