City’s subway constructions are mostly taken in dense urban areas where manybuilding facilities locate. The subway construction can disturb surface soil and causesurface movement and deformation. Additional internal stress can be generated whenthese surface movement and deformation affecting nearby buildings and further bringbuildings different level’s influence. These additional stresses can even threatenbuilding’s safety and use. As a result, surface settlement caused by subwayconstruction and its impact on nearby buildings is an urgent issue needed to be solvedduring subway construction. The article primarily involves research on the rule of surface settlement caused bysubway tunnel excavation and its impact on building’s future damage. Specifically, itcontains following content:(1)The article describes the causes of surface settlement and its basic parameterresulting from subway tunnel excavation, brings analysis and research result of surfacesubsidence rule including surface settlement above horizontal cross-section of tunneland dynamic surface settlement on top of longitudinally cross-section of tunnel. At thesame time, summarization and analysis are conducted towards influence factor ofsurface settlement;(2)Based on basic rule of surface settlement, the author systematically analyzedthe surface settlement impact on buildings in several respects ranging from surfacevertical displacement, tilting deformation, curvature deformation, horizontaldeformation to the relative location relationship between buildings and subway tunnel. The author also studied building’s structure crack type and feature caused by surfacesubsidence;(3)From the angle of additional force applied on building caused by surfacesettlement and incorporate with the problem in masonry structure appearing inQingdao subway construction, the author described the mechanical mechanism ofmasonry structure crack resulting from surface settlement and also derives relevant formula for calculating such additional force in order to achieve realization ofMATLAB programming and provide a reference for calculating similar additionalforce in different types of buildings;(4)Through monitoring surface settlement of Qingdao subway system andbuildings deformation, taking advantage of the theory in the article and numericalsimulation analysis conducted by MIDAS, the author studied the rule of surfacesettlement and the damage on buildings both caused by subway construction andcombines theory with practice in order to promote the theory application.
