The Folding Screen In The Expression Of Modern Office Space Context

Screen has a long and rich history in China as a constituent part of traditional chinese furniture and interior design, and it is also a human social product of material culture and spiritual culture. As an essential form of office furniture, the folding screen content the space usage on significances of the decoration and the function. The context is the language in the space environment. The spatial context is a kind of space spirit which is conveyed through the design of the designer. In the modern office space, how to use the folding screen on the space to effectively separate, to orient, to decorate, and to express the context, is the design thinking with the practical significance.This thesis inquires into screen in the expression of modern office space context by the research on the folding screen. Firstly, it introduces the background and the basis of the subject, the investigation and the development at home and abroad, the research object and content, as well as the purpose and significance. Started on the Exposition of the origin and the evolution of the folding screen, it analyzes the design characteristics of the different historical periods, it detailed summarizes the style,the material and the process, and it classifies the characteristics of the folding screen by the different space usage. Meanwhile it also explores the cultural connotation of the folding screen in the design of traditional and modern space.This thesis expound the expression of context and the function of implied on office space through analysis of modern office space context, it analyzes the change between the needs of different office space designs and the space contexts which combines the evolution of the development mode of the office space. Moreover, it analyzes and discusses the different natures of the office space that in order to explore how the folding screen works in different functions of the office space. It also analyzes the current situation of the modern office space design and summarizes the problem still exists in the current office space design. There are some cases for analyze the modern art form of the folding screen, traditional craft of the folding screen and the expressions of the office space by different materials and textures of the folding screen, and for summarize two points of the future folding screen design on the office space:the principle of the utilization and the method, the demand of the expression context.In this thesis, the investigations are based on four sides:the traditional screen, the modern office furniture design characteristics, the modern office space context and the detailed analysis of the current interior design trends. They combine the analysis of the indoor space environment development and explore the meaning and the function of the folding screen in the modern office space. Through the analysis of the problems and the shortage the folding screen design on the modern office space, the thesis concludes and summarizes the ways of how to use the design elements in the rapid design environment which is based on the traditional screen design, combined with more modern technological means and through the situation of screen design with the proper expression context of modern office space.
