In recent years, with the rapid development of highway system technology, the scale and vehicle flow have been becoming increasingly growing, the hierarchical structure has been getting more and more complex, and the external and internal environment have been turning progressively uncertain, moreover, traffic congestion, traffic delays and accidents occur frequently, its brittleness mainly comes from these phenomena, which always have a great effect on the normal operation of it. Therefore, in order to prevent and control the brittleness occurrence and improve the safety and reliability of it, it is of great significance to research the highway system brittleness.Firstly, by comparing with the common features between the complex system and highway system, this paper has proposed the brittleness features of complex system into highway system. Based on summarizing the research status and the achieved development results of complex system brittleness and highway system brittleness at home and abroad, the highway system brittleness definition and characteristics have been given, in addition, its objective existence has been analyzed. Combining with the excited conditions of it, then, its occurrence process was described.Secondly, through analyzing and extracting the highway system brittleness factors, the four-layer structure model, which including its brittleness risk, brittleness structures, brittleness events and brittleness factors, was established. Taking use of AHP method, its brittleness structure model was researched. On account of the brittleness relationship between highway system and its brittleness events, its brittleness association model was built. Taking advantage of extension cloud theory, entropy theory, catastrophe progression method and set pair analysis theory, its brittleness association model was explored. Meanwhile, the subsystems, brittleness events, brittleness factors, which make the highway system brittleness take place as well as were identified.Then, according to improving the vertex cybernetic model of the adaptive Agent graph, it is due to adaptive Agent graph that the highway system brittleness model and algorithm were established. The brittleness behavioral characteristics of the entire highway system were represented by the brittleness comprehensive risk entropy, which has completely reflected its brittleness state.Finally, taking a highway system for example, by using of adaptive Agent graph model, the highway system brittleness occurrence process was simulated and its brittleness degree was researched. The results show that if one of the nodes becomes collapsed, it will make the degree of disorder not stop to increase until the entire highway system becomes collapsed. Certainly, through preventing and controlling the highway various subsystems, its brittleness can be reduced, the safety and reliability of the highway system will be improved at the same time. This model can effectively simulate the highway system brittleness occurrence process and reveal its root cause of brittleness.
