In this thesis, the characteristics of the capture-gated neutron detector, as EJ301 and EJ339 A are studied both experimentally and theoretically. Through the experimental measurements and numerical simulations. The experimental and simulation results are compared, which shows that EJ301 and EJ339 A have good performance characteristics. There are two parts in the thesis:The first part, aims at the energy calibration, and the study of the pulse shape discrimination(PSD) ability of EJ301 organic liquid scintillation detector. Using the waveform digitizer DT5720 and DPP-PSD(Digital Pulse Processing-Pulse Shape Discrimination) control software, and measuring the Compton peaks of 241 Am, 60Co-137 Cs, and 40 K sources, experimental data for pulse shape discrimination and the energy calibration of EJ301 are obtained. The results show that EJ301 detector has high efficiency, strong n/γ pulse shape discrimination ability, which can be used for neutron measurement and suitable for measuring fast neutron energy spectrum and time of flight. Through the analysis of energy spectrum and double pulse waveform spectrum, the characteristics of EJ339 A capture-gated detector is studied, which is shown that EJ339 A has the good captured-gated detector characteristics, pulse neutron capture and n-p associated characteristics of recoil impulse. The capture time of EJ339 A is 0.44μs, which is consistent with the theoretical result.In the second part, the MCNP5 program is adopted to simulate the energy spectrums of EJ339 A and EJ301 liquid scintillation detector with different neutron energy. Using 252 Cf source in the experiment, the energy spectrum measurement and PSD analysis of pulse shape discrimination of EJ339 A and EJ301 are performent. From the energy spectrum and PSD spectrum measurement, the Capture-gated detectortor is found to be effective for neutron and gamma ray measurment. The wave of digital technology could have a good analysis of n-p recoil impulse. The simulation conclusion resulrs are consistent with the experiment at ones.
