The friction and wear performance and mechanical properties of disc automobile brake lining friction materials will reduce and failure as its long years’ service. It’s very important for the development of disc automobile brake friction lining friction materials industry to improve its using performance in use and to prolong its service life. The method of fiber reinforcement is used in improving friction and wear performance and mechanical properties of disc brake lining friction materials.By using finite element simulation analysis, the macroscopic and mesoscopic braking process are analyzed using the thermo-mechanical coupled model. It’s found that, from point of macroscopic view, the maximum temperature and the maximum stress of lignin fiber reinforced disc automobile brake lining friction materials are low in braking process, which value are 327.9 ℃ and 0.2885 x 102 MPa respectively; from point of mesoscopic view, the reinforcing effect of lignin fibers is well when fibers arranged in 30° direction in matrix, and the interfacial bonding strength between matrix and fibers is higher.Several experiments had made for disc automobile brake lining friction materials with different fiber. Research shows that the material reinforced with lignin fiber has well mechanical properties and friction and wear performance, and its impact toughness, hardness,and fracture toughness are 5.43 KJ/cm2, 62, and 4.84 MPa·m1/2respectively. At the same time,its coefficient of friction is stable and its wear rate is lower under various temperatures.It’s found that main wear mechanism of disc automobile brake lining friction materials is fatigue wear under the condition of 350 ℃. Because of different hardness between different friction materials, lignin fiber reinforced and carbon fiber reinforced disc automobile brake lining friction materials still have abrasive wear.According to the research of disc automobile brake lining friction materials’ microstructure morphology with different fiber reinforcement, we can found that the reinforced fiber were dispersed well in the matrix, which can improve the interface bonding strength between fiber and matrix, so that the disc automobile brake lining friction materials show an excellent friction and wear performance in braking process.Compared the finite element simulation results with the test results, doing the qualitativeanalysis on the better comprehensive properties’ material composition of lignin fiber reinforced disc automobile brake lining. To provide some theoretical references for the improvement of the contents of disc automobile brake lining friction materials.
