In military, most countries use penetrator to destroy the important target of the enemy, such as airport and ground targets, especially underground military facilities. Compared with conventional bombs, penetrator has a great advantage. It will not explode when hitting the earth. After hitting the earth, the penetrator will move downward to a certain depth according to the preset trajectory, and then explode, destroy the underground facilities.The performance evaluation of the penetrator includes its penetration ability, trajectory control ability and damage ability. In the shooting range test, the trajectory control ability is very important and difficult. The determination of the trajectory can be decomposed into determining a series of point locations of the underground penetrator. Passive location is available to achieve this function.The paper gives a brief introduction of the advantages and disadvantages of the commonly used location systems. As a result, the location method, which is based on the seismic waves, is believed to be applied to locate the penetrator. The impact of the underground penetrator generates seismic waves, which contain time information and doppler frequency information. These information can be used to locate the penetrator.Based on the location principle of TDOA system, the paper analyzes the basic principle of time difference location, puts forward the location model, combines geometrical relationship and time information to deduces the location equations. Then, the paper introduces algorithms to solve the equations, and focuses on improving the traditional Chan algorithm, which is commonly applied to solve the TDOA equations. Simulation experimental results prove that the improved Chan algorithm can get better solution results. At the same time, the simulation results under different errors and different depths show that the TDOA method can obtain good location accuracy.Based on the location principle of FDOA system, the paper analyzes the basic principle of frequency difference of arrival, puts forward the location models, combines geometry relation and frequency information to deduces the location equations. The paper combines the advantages of TDOA and FDOA to locate the penetrator and introduces three algrithms to solve the equation of FDOA. Simulation experimental results prove that compared with genetic algorithm and BFGS algorithm, particle swarm algorithm can solve the equaton more accurate. At the same time, the simulation results under different errors and different depths show that the joint method can obtain good location accuracy. Compared with the results of TDOA location, the joint method improve the location accracy obviously. Therefore, this resarch has vital sinificance to the stdudy of locating the penetrators.
