As an important part of urban public transport, urban rail transit plays a crucial role in easing traffic congestion and building green transportation. In recent years, large and medium-sized cities have accelerated the construction of urban rail transit and continued to change the operation mode from one-line independent operation to network operation. In the rail transit network, different lines are connected by transfer stations which can transfer passengers between different lines. As an intersection in the rail transit network, the level of a passenger transfer will have a direct effect on the passenger exchange, and the rail transit service level also depends on the length of the passenger dwelling time in the transfer station. Therefore, how to improve the transfer efficiency of transfer station has become the most important issue in the urban rail transit network operation. When the transfer station construction is completed, all the transfer facilities and the transfer methods have been basically established which cannot be reconstructed on a large scale, and all these factors will affect the transfer efficiency directly. Consequently, under the existing transfer station conditions, only through rational optimization of train organization and improvement the operational coordination between different lines can the transfer efficiency of transfer station be improved. In this paper, the transfer stations under the network operation conditions are the main object of study. First of all, the transfer station was introduced and the effect of the relationship of different lines on the type selection of transfer station was analyzed in detail. Then the transfer methods were compared and the main factors affecting the transfer methods selection were analyzed. In addition, the transfer coordination theory was introduced, and the influencing factors were analyzed from the perspectives of transfer passenger flow, transfer facilities and train organization, providing a theoretical basis for the modeling in this paper. Secondly, transfer time within the transfer station was analyzed and then the waiting time on the platform and traveling time were studied separately. Under different platform structure and routing mode, the corresponding calculation method of waiting time was obtained. Using the method of probability theory and mathematical statistics, the traveling time data were fitted by the density function kernel density estimation through the use of Matlab. The transfer walking time obeys the normal distribution, and the relevant parameters were estimated which provides the basic data for the modeling and analysis in this paper.According to the study above, in order to realize the optimal adjustment of the train arrival time, the optimization model of transfer station train connection was developed taking the minimum transfer passengers waiting time as the goal. Meanwhile, the corresponding genetic algorithm was designed to solve the model. Based on the analysis of a single transfer direction, the coordination of transfer of rail transit network was studied and the solving steps were designed. Finally, a case study of Tianjin Metro was carried out. First, the Xi’nan Jiao transfer station was selected as an example, the validity and effectiveness of the model and algorithm were verified taking Line 1 and Line 2 as the transfer optimization objects. Then, three lines in the Tianjin Metro Rail Transit System were selected as the transfer optimization objects. The rail transit network transfer coordination was analyzed and the optimization results were calculated. The overall optimization results of Xi’nan Jiao transfer station and Tianjin Metro Rail Transit System showed that the optimization model designed in this paper can effectively reduce the transfer waiting time and improve the efficiency of urban rail transit, which has a certain practical application value.
