| The break-up capacity of the hump is one of the key aspects in improving the transport efficiency of the railway network, so it is essential to find out the bottle-necks that restrict the hump’s break-up capacity. There are many factors that may affect the hump’s capacity, among which is the equipment combination of marshalling stations. This article models on and emulates the operating procedures of a marshalling station’s declassification system with the help of both the Arena simulation software and the queuing theory. After the functional distribution of train arrival intervals and the time consumption of the declassification system are obtained, different parameters are put into the simulating model to change the initial conditions so that the factors that affect the declassification capacity of a marshalling station can be contrasted and analyzed. As a simulation of discrete events system, the simulation of the declassification system of a marshalling station is based on the changes of states of all the related entities. If we see the declassification system of a marshalling station as a large processing factory, the arriving trains then can be regarded as the entity to be processed, inspectors and the hump as the processing equipment, shunting locomotives as a transport tool, and finally the declassified cars as the finished products. The arriving trains have to wait for examination and hump equipments, and the queuing theory and the simulation system can then help to generate such data as the queuing time, the length of a queue and the rate of resource utilization. In the process of simulation analysis, two pairs of data, is the track quantity of a arrival field and the number of the examination teams, as well as the number of the examination teams and the numbers of the shunting locomotives, are grouped to see the influences of different factors on the hump’s declassification capability. Through the simulation results, it has been found that the influence of the tack quantity on the hump’s declassification capability has a critical value:before this value, the hump’s declassification capability increase with the track quantity; after the value is reached, the improvement of the hump’s declassification capability depends on the coordination between the examination teams and the shunting locomotives. In the declassification system of a marshalling station, the hump’s declassification operations should be based on the trains’ arrival intensity of a given marshalling station in order for it to run smoothly, otherwise it may result in waste of resources.Involving practical needs, theoretical analysis, the application of the queuing theory in the declassification system and simulation software, which simulates and models on the declassification system of a marshalling station, this article intends to provide support and scientific methodology for the optimization of marshalling stations’ operations, and it is thus of great importance for the improvement of the declassification capability of marshallingstations. |
