Research On Space Surface Of Street For Traditional Towns

Town, is a kind of traditional settlements, which plays a significant part during the development of human history. Since the reform and open up, the town has made enormous strides. And after the new-type urbanization has been considered as the major national strategy by The Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC, the development of the town made another great progress. However, some problems during the development should not be ignored. So, under this circumstance, the town, as an indispensable part of urban-rural development system, has its great significance in terms of research.Fotang, Yiwu has been chosen as the case to study, with the theoretical support from knowledge of urban space design. The research starts from the space surface of town’s street, followed by the form and structure. Moreover, the relationship between space surface and space form, space function will be discussed as well. Through the field trip in Fotang and analysis on its space surface of streets, some common problems, as well as key elements had been found, and recommendations about ideas, purposes, contents and methods of redesigning the streets’ surface has been made.The purpose of this research is trying to do some fundamental research in terms of the protection and development of traditional towns. In addition, Fotang, as a case of a well-developed traditional town, will provide some experience to the sustainable development of traditional towns.
