Full face rock tunnel boring machine(referred to as TBM) is a large factory tunnel operating system that make mechanics, electronics, Hydraulic pressure, laser technology as a whole. Disc cutter is one of the key components of the TBM, which was directly used to break rocks for wearing parts.This paper firstly introduces the basic problems of disc cutter. Next it analysis the rock breaking mechanism of disc cutter, and the results show that the disc cutter is mainly through the cut and crushed to break rock. Through the practice of the site in Water supply project of Northwest Liaoning、West Qinling Mountains tunnel project,it analyzes failure modes and its reasons of disc cutter. The main mode is normal wear, and it also has some unmoral wear modes including side wear, oil spills, broken cutter ring, retainer ring off and so on. Combined in Vietnam Kontum diversion project internship experience, focus on the project early hob large abnormal wear reason inquiry.Then it studies the consumption problem of disc cutter according to the data of TBM construction site. There are many factors to influence the consumption of disc cutter, and all of the factors should be integrated into the tool consumption forecast. It qualitatively analysis the relationship between disc cutter wear and its influence factors including its own factors, geological factors, boring parameters. Get the relationship between disc cutter consumption and the cutter number: Cutter numbers the greater the greater the tool consumption. Introduce several major disc cutter consumption forecasting model, and mending the disc cutter consumption prediction formula that based on TBM working condition grade.Analysis the main detection methods of disc cutter wear and failure at domestic and foreign and introduce a kind of real-time monitoring device of disc cutter that based on Eddy current sensor. Mainly introduces the boring parameter analysis method, the use of cutterhead torque anddriving speed of the changes to determine the tool wear, the principle is correct, but the lack ofuniversality, applicability, still in the research stage.Finally, study the content and process of disc cutter management. Disc cutter management process is formed by disc cutter testing, disc cutter using, disc cutter inspection and replacement, disc cutter repairing, data record and storage. We believe that every aspect should be grasped well in order to make good use of the disc cutter. Using C# language and SQL database to written disc cutter consumption statistic software. The software has many functions, and the Statistics projects is formed by disc cutter number, disc cutter location number and spare parts.
