During the 12th five-year plan, the government will vigorously develop to build the intelligent substation, about 5000 new intelligent substations are going to be built and 1000 old substations are going to be intelligently upgraded. With the development of the intelligent grid, new requirements are put forward to the intelligence of the intelligent substation. As an important part of the substation secondary system, monitoring system occupies a very important position in intelligent substation, it achieves the goal of monitoring the substation and the sharing of data globally. This paper mainly focus on the typical 220kV intelligent substation network structure, the optimization of secondary equipment port, the optimization of switches.Firstly, the paper analyzes and studies the primary connection and primary equipment for typical 220kV intelligent substation monitoring system, then choose suitably according to the actual situation, and then analyzes the principle and classification of the electronic transformer, last choose the corresponding electronic current transformer and electronic voltage transformer based on the situation of each bay for typical 220kV intelligent substation.Network optimizing proposals of typical 220kV intelligent substation monitoring system are put forward by researching and analyzing communication service model, intergraded device of protection relay and remote terminal unit, protection tripping mode and network topology of intelligent substation monitoring system. The optimization proposals are mainly from the secondary equipment port and cable for economic considerations. From the optimization results it can be seen that the economic is best that the information transfer through the network. And then a comprehensive optimization of network in each bay is put forward in the network structure of three layer two network mainly from the engineering practice.The paper continue to optimize the switch based on the network optimization of the typical 220kV intelligent substation monitoring system, the switch optimization mainly involves the allocation of bandwidth and data flow. Then the total bandwidth is analyzed and optimized under the premise that meeting the load rate of total station by the traffic analysis of the SV message and GOOSE message. According to results of the allocation of bandwidth and data flow the switch network ports are Statistical analyzed, finally we get the switches optimization results.
