People in the information society require more than just a comfortable home environment, but also need an intelligent, networked, information-based lifestyle. So smart home appeared. It can improve people’s living standard, is very ideal residential model for people in the future and it is the inevitable trend of development of household industry. Smart home system has become a hot research topic. With the development of science and technology, especially in recent years the rapid development of a variety of information and automation technology, smart home technology advances day by day, and month by month. Now the smart home industry is in a rising stage of development, its market prospects are broad.The research significance and the domestic and foreign development status of smart home system are comprehensively analyzed in this paper. There are a lot of disadvantages in the current smart home control system. Based on the above considerations, this paper points out the trend of the development of smart home system in the future, so as to research and design a practical, low-power, low cost, easy to networking and maintenance of a new type of smart home system.For smart home system, the home gateway and networking mode determine the flexibility and the design level of the system. First, based on the research and analysis of the relevant technology analysis, the paper puts forward the design idea of the smart home system. The paper combines ARM processor with Zig Bee wireless network technology and the smart home system is researched and designed. Second, in the design of home gateway, with Samsung’s S3C2440 chip as the core to form the home gateway control platform, the design and implementation methods of the home gateway are illustrated in detail. On the software side, the embedded Linux software platform is established, including porting U-Boot, Linux kernel porting, making the file system, and the embedded Web server, which can realize remote monitoring devices in the home is ported. Finally the Zig Bee wireless network technology is selected to build internal network and Zig Bee part adopted CC2530 which was TI company’s enhanced products as wireless communication devices. By studying and analyzing Zig Bee protocol stack’s structure, principle and working process, software design of the coordinator and the Zig Bee end nodes are completed. Entire communication platform has great flexibility and scalability. The user through the system can easily remote complete data acquisition and device control and management of home network nodes.After the system design is completed, the performance is tested. Experiments show that the system is stable and reliable and has reached the expected goals, verify the feasibility of system design. This smart home system in this paper has low cost, low complexity, calability and ease of deployment etc. It basically meets the people’s needs for smart home, and the design has certain effect for the promotion of the popularization of smart home system.
