This topic chooses transformer substation of factories and mines as the research object combined with the trend and requirement of developing smart grid system. On the basis of in-depth investigation and study, we try to use the popular automation technology and methods of communication currently in substation who is important part of the smart grid to realize the real-time monitoring and to form a new kind of monitoring system, and make a tentative research and development.On the basis of the investigation to small and medium-sized industrial substation as the research object, through the analysis and research this kind of substation (mostly 35kV), we find its monitoring system is lack of information resources sharing, information technology and its intelligent degree is also not high, repeat setting function, leading to a field wiring of concision, system communication protocols of each part of the interface, the reliability of the system with the spread of factories and power supply scale presents a weakening trend, also affects the openness and scalability of the whole system. These problems is the main reasons for not fully combined with the current emerging intelligent electrical equipment type and quantity of the situation, not make full use of network, digital, information technology means to realize the system design and the system design thought development and application of intelligent units, thus caused to satisfy the function of the system configuration of the mechanical phenomenon of "system", or the underlying control unit can’t input system, information transmission, or the function of the system requires the underlying control equipment unit does not have. According to the above problem, this project attempts to discuss the basic requirement of intelligent equipment within the substation and its composition, also and the basic idea of system integration from the perspective of the overall system design thought.On this topic in the selection of technology, the use of the most popular of PLC technology, wireless network communication technology, the fieldbus technology and configuration software technology. The actual research object selected the corporations of the substation.With the rapid development of power system and the modern society to the requirement of power supply quality is increasing, requirements to power system operation, integrated automation control and management, the development of fieldbus technology and matures to realize the fully digital substation provides a new attempt and approach. Lonworks mature technology, advanced, reliable, using new technology implementation specification monitoring in substation management is the development trend of substation integrated automation technology. Using Lonworks technology will be very good to adapt to the demand of the continuous development of the power system reliable, strong real-time performance, easy to operate power network automation needs. To realize the digital substation monitoring is one of gradually requirement of digital power grid.
