Ship-to-ship transferring of liquid cargo is an important way of liquid cargo discharging at sea. With the increase of the LNG import quantum, the sea transportatio n gaining share, the LNG ship-to-ship transfer operation will be used more abroad. The arrangement of fenders between ships is a necessary part in the transfer operation. It has a profound and far reaching significance for the research on how to arrange the fender between ships reasonably.In this paper, the impact energy calculation formula from International chamber of shipping is chosen as the formula for the berthing operation by the contrastive analysis between two formulas firstly, and then, researching the force law of ship-to-ship fender in transfer operation by mooring force analysis software OPTIMOOR. The operation condition in which the maximum force of ship-to-ship fenders appears and the force law of fender are found out through the use of control variable method.During the time of getting the arrangement fenders specification and amount, the optimize suggestion of the fender arrangement for ship-to-ship transfer operation is got through the contrastive analysis of different arranging ways and different kinds of fenders.In view of the last analysis result, with the actual demand, gives some optimal advice on the arrangements of fenders, with 4 typical large LNG transport ships as transfer mother-ship, a new type branch line LNG transport ship as barge.
