In complex situation of information society, there are many changes and challenges in creation of urban public space. The creative design and expression of urban public space is showing an open, dynamic, heterogeneous, pluralistic, diverse and complex development trend. We are facing a breakthrough of the urban public space, which converted original closed model to open diversification system. There is a trend that urban public spaces have multiple dimensions, richer levels and factors, thus forming a open dynamic system. Nowadays, the complex phenomenon of urban public space creation, with the traditional philosophy of theory, there is limit of the explanation and interpretation to the creation phenomenon of urban public space.The thesis takes a combination form of theoretical analysis and case studies in the application of Michel Foucault’s heterotopias theory. The thesis summarizes urban public space creative thinking from time dimension, spatial dimension and law of life at three levels. The six core features of heterotopia converted to urban public space creation language. The thesis summarizes contemporary urban public space design techniques and makes constructive comments on its design direction. The thesis tries to combine the scientific and philosophy and creates analytical tools and creative thinking to guide urban public space design.The thesis consists of six chapters. The thesis focuses the following questions:1. What are the background, purpose and meaning of the study? How to define the object and scope of the study? (Chapter I)2. What is the relationship of the heterotopia and the urban public space creative thinking? What are the origin and the meaning of heterotopia in contemporary urban public space creative theory? (Chapter II)3. How the six characteristics of the heterotopia convert to the urban public space creation language in the three dimensions of time spatial and life? What is the creative approach? (Chapter III, IV and V)4. What is the significance of the heterotopia theory to guide the growing complexity of urban public space creation? (Chapter VI)...
