Presently, the smart grid is booming, and the energy inserted into system is complicated and intelligent gradually. Especially after a large number of distributed energy insert into system, it changes the structure of power system, so the reactive power optimization situation and problems of intelligent power system hasn’t be accommodated or solved through the existing reactive power optimization model. On the other hand, the present reactive power optimization algorithm is inadequate and illogical, and the power system is increasingly tremendous, besides the time of intelligent optimization algorithm is much longer, so it can’t response the changes of system in real time, and it can’t adapt to complex locale surroundings. As a result, there is no accepted efficient algorithm which can solve all kinds of the size of the power system reactive power optimization problem. Because of the objective factors, seeking for reactive power optimization solution as effective as possible is an important research direction of power system reactive power optimization.Firstly, in the paper, the importance of power system reactive power optimization is analyzed integrally, furthermore, the generatrix, reactive power supplies, and transformers in the role of reactive power balance, are analyzed through a reactive power imbalance response strategy of transformer substation.Secondly, the basic requirements of reactive power optimization of distribution network are seriously analyzed, and the advantages and disadvantages of four kinds of reactive power optimization for distribution network are compared. Finally, the mathematical model of reactive power compensation for distribution network is established, and the lines installed capacitor reactive power compensation location and capacities are derived using mathematical formulas.Nextly, in this paper, three different algorithms of characteristics and advantages and disadvantages of analyzing the automatic voltage control (AVC) system optimization algorithm of the improved genetic algorithm, fuzzy expert system algorithm and equipment number optimization algorithm are analyzed and compared.Finally, in the paper, through the basic principle of power system reactive power optimization, the application practices of Sanming electric network reactive power optimization system and the operation of AVC system, some more fully demonstrate the viewpoints are formed from practical observation and theoretical thoughts. Accordingly, it will provide a reference method of planning and management of Sanming power system. Practical application shows that through the implementation of the optimal allocation of reactive power, new technology of new type of reactive power compensation equipment, construction of reactive power capacity configuration is further improved, in addition, the technical, management and economic benefits are remarkable.
