The healthy growth of children highly depends on the quality of outdoor environment. As the urban development thrives, kids are forced to spend their childhood in the crowded street and on the concrete public square, thus children are kept far from natural environment and fresh air. While the newly emerging sightseeing agricultural park with its unique geographic feature, agricultural ecological landscape and farming culture, can provide much more various activity space, diversified experience and enriched spiritual enjoyment. Thus, it’s the best classroom to get to know about nature, and also the most ideal place to conduct natural education. It should bear the responsibility of satisfying the need of children’s recreation and conducting elementary education. However, the children’s play zone in sightseeing agricultural parks not only fail to draw enough attention in the field of children’s play zone planning, but also in the booming development of sightseeing agricultural parks, and thus become an ignored design object. Therefore, it’s an important project that worth our thoughts to build a children’s play zone with both sightseeing agricultural parks’feature and characteristics that are in consistent with children’s physical and mental behavior. The methodology this article adopted are literature review, questionnaire survey, field research and comprehensive analysis. The analytical framework consists of raising questions, breaking down and solving problems. There are four major parts of this article:(1) Clarified related definitions, specified the age range of children as study objective and characterized the children’s play zone. Discussed the relationship between the sightseeing agricultural park and the children’s play zone, summarized the features and functions of children’s play zones in sightseeing agricultural parks, and conducted fundamental theoretical research from the aspects of child psychology, tourism psychology, landscape architecture, landscape aesthetics and so on.(2) Studied the ideal place and project for children’s recreation through a questionnaire survey from 4 aspects that are target backgrounds, activity involvement, facility preference and subjective cognition. Moreover, this paper also analyzed the natural elements, agricultural elements, environmental elements and current situation of recreational projects through field study and case analysis. Above all, the author discovered the existing problems in children’s play zone in sightseeing agricultural parks such as irrational use of natural elements, unclear feature of agricultural characteristics, imperfect function of environmental facilities, and homogeneity of recreational projects.(3) Concluded the planning and design principles for children’s play zones in sightseeing agriculture parks, made overall planning strategies to highlight the characteristics of agriculture, emphasize the participation experience; respect the natural ecology and create a recreation atmosphere; optimize environmental facilities, consistent with the child’s features. The article proposed a detailed natural element design strategy from aspects of terrain, water and plants, a detailed agricultural element design strategy from aspects of corps, animals and agricultural equipments, and a detailed environmental element design strategy from aspects of sanitation, rest facilities, commentary facilities, paving facilities and decorative facilities. Meanwhile, the article proposed general recreational project planning strategies to expand the categories of projects, highlight the experience projects; meet children’s interests, pay attention to quality development projects; highlight their advantages, build tourism and leisure projects; capture agricultural core, strengthen science education projects and so on. Also the article discussed the detailed recreational facilities design strategy from 4 aspects of tourism and leisure projects, experience projects, quality development projects, science education projects.(4) Through a case study of Children’s Park in He le Village, the article applied the design strategies into applications, combined theory and practice, and provided references for future planning of children’s play zone planning and design in sightseeing agriculture parks.
