Post-Industrial Landscape Design In Urban Waterfront Area

Waterfront always be an important area in urban development. Because of the rapid development of industrialization and traffic advantage, urban waterfront always gathered a large area of industrial land. However, on account of anti-industrialization, waterway recession and many other reasons, some waterfront industrial area lost its vitality and began to decline, finally turn to abandoned ruins. In order to revive the decline of the inner city, the revival of the city waterfront should be brought into the agenda. After people are gradually aware of that these seemingly useless old abandoned lands are really valuable heritages, waterfront post-industrial landscape has become one of the effective means to achieve cultural continuity and the inner city revival in this context.By analyzing the elements, features and the value of urban waterfront industrial heritage area, this paper aims to explore how to use different types of protection and reuse models to deal with waterfront industrial heritage area in different value levels, and how to use different types of landscape design methods in response to different types of site value carrier, in order to protect the important value of waterfront industrial heritage area and to utilization the reused value of the site. Through the analysis of foreign waterfront post-industrial landscape design practice cases classification and comparative study, finally obtained the enlightenment for Chinese waterfront post-industrial landscape design from the research results.
