With the wide application of mobile phone, notebook computer, digital camera, MP4 and other consumer and portable electronic products in the life, the huge market demand for lithium-ion battery guide the battery industry continue to be strong, but in the lithium-ion battery, the battery has overcharging, overheating, overdischarging, over-current phenomenon which lead to shortening its life expectancy, even appearing combustion, explosion and other safety issues, so the research of battery management system has become the key to solve the problem, to improve lithium-ion battery life and to ensure the safety of lithium-ion battery and it has a very important significance. This paper described the performance characteristics of lithium-ion battery and the type selection of lithium-ion battery. Then the functions of lithium-ion battery management had been studied and this paper had formulated a detailed solution for a balanced policy of the system, capacity assessment, protection and communications management system. Further, the system power circuit, the acquisition circuit, charging and discharging control circuit, active equalization circuit, and clock circuit communication had been described. Next, the system software was a block design. The subject adopted active equalization way to realize the balanced management of battery pack, combined the advantages of open circuit voltage and ampere integral method to achieve a capacity assessment, and used the RS232 serial port communication to transfer data and change parameter. Finally, the battery management system for common problems conduct a series of tests to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the lithium-ion battery management system and the expected objective is achieved.
