Earth Buildings In Modern Context

Earth is a kind of ancient building material as well as modern building material. Earth is Ancient, because it is widely used in almost all civilization from their very beginnings; it is Modern, because it attracts attention in modern time considering its good properties of engineering physics, environmental friendly features and artistic expression.This dissertation focuses on the earth buildings in modern context, and discusses how to build modern earth buildings and how to realize better quality and effect in following aspects:material modification, construction technology, development, related codes and organizations, etc.The first chapter mainly introduces the object, significance, status and methods of this research. The second chapter provides an overview of traditional earth building technology, and points out that the traditional earth-building technology is the foundation of that of modern times. This chapter also discusses the common damages occurred in earth buildings, and attempts to propose solutions. Chapter 3 to7 are the main parts of this dissertation. The third chapter discusses strategies of material test and modification. The fourth chapter discusses the design and construction technology of modern earth buildings. Chapter five discusses the motivation of developing modern earth building as well as several direction of development. Chapter six discusses related building Codes and Organizations. Chapter seven reviews several modern earth building cases, both houses and public buildings. Chapter 8 is the conclusion part which summarizes the research work done in this article, and attempts to point out the future of this research.
