For a long time, the traditional manual meter-reading method was used by water company. It is not only time consuming, but also cannot accurately detect the water use of residents. In recent years, there appeared a variety of intelligent meter products, such as direct-reading water meter and pulse water meter. Direct-reading intelligent meter has the problem of high cost, and pulse water meter keeps having cumulative errors. Besides, the dispute on whether use wired or wireless meter reading network is also restricting the development of meter remote reading system.After a study of the sensors, wireless data communications, M-bus communication and a summarize of advantages and disadvantages of intelligent meter remote reading system, this paper proposed specific solutions. An infrared reflective sensor was designed for the dry magnetic transmission water meter, with M-bus protocol, infrared data transmission technology and ultra-low power embedded system. At the same time, the master of M-bus and its embedded systems were also designed.At first, this paper introduced the intelligent meter and M-bus master hardware design. The design of intelligent meter hardware includes an infrared reflective sensor, to detect the dry mass meter magnetic encoder, an infrared data communication circuit and an M-bus slave circuit. The hardware of M-bus concentrator mainly includes the circuit design of M-bus master data transmission and data reception, among which the problem of power, data reception filtering and dynamic load are all proposed solutions to.Secondly, this thesis introduced the design of intelligent water meter and M-bus concentrator software. Intelligent water meter software is designed according to the requirements of ultra-low power and reliable data exchange, and M-bus data transfer protocol is also realized. M-bus concentrator software achieved such functions as M-bus bus short circuit, overload protection and dynamic threshold setting.Finally, a joint test and analysis of intelligent water meter and M-bus concentrator is conducted. First of all, a test of low power and meter reading was carried out separately, with a corresponding analysis. Then the joint testing is conducted, mainly on data transmission and the adaptation of M-bus circuit based on multi-load. Analysis and comparison are made, which will provide solid foundation for subsequent improvements.This paper, based on the existing remote smart meter reading system, improved the software and hardware design of smart meter and M-bus concentrator, taking into account of both function and cost. Besides, it can also improve the accuracy and real-time performance of data collection. This design proposed by this paper has broad market foreground.
