Chain transmission, as an important way to driving parts in mechanical transmission, is widely used in a variety of mechanical transmission system such as transportation, mining, metallurgy, agriculture, military affairs, because of reliable economics and good transmission performance. But because of low-speed and heavy-loading, traditional chain drive with loose edges cannot meet the actual requirements of engineering practice. Using slide constrained chain can maximize the load carrying capacity of the limited space within a given area, significantly improve reliability of conveyor movement, and effective enhance the carrying capacity of the transport mechanism and motion path of load.For the limitations of the equipment manufacturing industry chain drive configuration and drive method, the paper developed a high-performance two-way heavy load chain driven system. It will be used for difficult achieving configuration of heavy chain transmission and two-way driving situation. The main contents are as follows:(1) A model of chain transmission that effectively uses space is built in a given rectangular area, analyses the motion characteristic in a cycle process of power transmission, and produces compression and tension variation trends. Presenting a positional compensation programs for the trajectory of pin makes conveyor run smoothly and continuously.(2) Trajectory of U-shaped slide is generated. The center path and inner, outer contours track of load positions is calculated(inner, outer contours track of load positions is the shape of constrained slide) through position path of pin. By means of multinomial fitting function of MATLAB, curve equation of every trajectory is presented. The use of multi-part arc of the curve instead of irregular is to reduce difficulty in actual processing.(3) Structural members in chain transmission system are designed. 3D modeling of U-shaped by the use of Solid Works is carried out, such as roller, chain plate, star shaped sprocket wheel, U-shaped slide, sprocket wheel shaft, and connecting shaft and assembled in terms of path matching.(4) Part of the chain system was replaced by hinged four-bar mechanism, and the link velocity and acceleration were analyzed using the application of analytical method. It generates theoretical results of kinematic. Meanwhile, the paper draws the curve of kinematic characteristics. Combined with the result of movement simulation, the paper verifies the correctness of the design idea.(5) Some static analysis about parts of Bi-directional driven chain transmission system was completed by using large-scale finite element simulation analysis software called ANSYS. The results show these parts have higher strength and stiffness, so as to meet the function and safety requirement.
